Biography

Dr. Nustad has been with the University of Mary since 2000, founding the programs in exercise science (bachelor’s) and clinical exercise physiology (master’s) and leading the accreditation process for each. Nustad earned a Doctor of Science in Health Promotion and Wellness from Rocky Mountain University of Health Promotion, a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Ball State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at Valley City State University, where she competed in gymnastics and was a three-time Academic All-American. Nustad has practiced clinical exercise physiology since 1991, in the combined areas of cardiac rehabilitation, adult fitness, youth fitness, exercise prescription with chronic disease and conditions, strength and conditioning, research, and higher education.

Involved at regional and national levels of the American College of Sports Medicine since 1991, Nustad has served two terms as North Dakota representative for the Northland American College of Sports Medicine (NASM), one term as president-elect, president, and past president for NACSM, and served on the Legislative Committee for Clinical Exercise Physiology Association (CEPA). She served on the Go! Bismarck-Mandan community coalition for eight years and was the recipient of the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award in 2016.  Nustad facilitates student research and is published in the areas of body image disorders and cardiac health. She enjoys exercising, hiking, bird watching, golf, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
