Values First

Grounded in Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine values, we care about your success and go above and beyond to ensure that you receive an education for the whole of life.

Monsignor James P. Shea, President of the University of Mary, shares the purpose of higher education,

“Often misunderstood in our day, a university should not merely equip students with skills required for their professional career. Our work is to help our students—whether they are 18 or 42—to live fully, to live well, so that they are not just existing, but really living; not just surviving, but thriving. And that is a whole different thing, it’s an endeavor which is very distinct from what most colleges in our day set out to do.

We offer an education for the whole of life, and that’s the difference. The University of Mary, for life.

From the Beginning

Adult education soared in the years after World War II, when those we call ‘the Greatest Generation’ returned from service having made great sacrifices for this country. A grateful nation responded with the G.I. Bill, offering the priceless benefits of higher education to millions who served in the military.

They moved out of uniform and into the classroom, even while getting married and raising
families. That educational opportunity created the greatest economic boom in this nation’s history.

Adult education remains the single most effective avenue to career success and personal growth.

Since our founding in 1959, the University of Mary has been instrumental in providing education to working adults in the region. From our flagship programs in nursing and education to degree options offered online and in the evenings, the University of Mary understands the unique needs of students advancing their education while also balancing family and professional responsibilities.

University of Mary has the best programs with each degree clearly mapped out, allowing students to know what to expect. The flexibility for students to jump in and out of various classes to meet their scheduling needs is fantastic. University of Mary truly is the best!
